Dear Cattlemen,
Welcome to the 2015 Skinner Ranch Seedstock 28th annual bull sale. We would like to thank all the previous buyers and bidders that had the confidence in our program to make our sales and program a success and allowing us to move forward. A very big thank you to our friends and neighbors who help the sale run smoothly.
We would not be able to do it without you. We would like also to thank those who were so supportive of our fall 2014 Female sale that made it a large crowd and a success. The last year was a good season here. The rain was not abundant but it was timely and the grass was fair. Of course we all would like to have our cows belly deep in grass with a lot of it left over for next year but it never seems to happen that way. I suppose we try and keep our numbers at a level so we use most all of it to improve income.
Again it looks like a good time to be in the cattle business as cattle prices are beyond what we ever expected and at an all-time high. The cattle numbers and demand are in position to have another good year. Maybe a few sold some calves too early last year but they were still in a good profit position and that is very positive. I’ve learned we can never hit the high every year.
A new change in our program is having our bull sale when the bulls are more mature and developed out. They will be semen tested to the best of our ability with scrotal measurements and 365 day weights. There will be less chance of loss to injury or other issues from the time of purchase to delivery. Do keep in mind they are like a bunch of high school football players and like to play at nights after they eat and sometimes it gets a little rough and someone gets hurt. I feel that the changes are positive and will out weigh any disadvantages the timing may cause anyone. We have tried to evaluate this for 4 years. Most people are calving in March and April now. The sale will be on Superior with the video there for you to watch and bid if you cannot attend. Many who were unable to attend, have switched over to bidding on the internet from the phones, and feel comfortable with that. The phones will still be available if you wish. The information for Superior will be on the inside of the cover of the catalog. Please call us for help if you need to bid or get registered with Superior. You can come, and go through the bulls ahead of time to evaluate them if you would like to. Please call us if you have any questions about the bulls or buying procedure.
We have another exciting addition to other family and his name is Teagan. Tim and Hayley had a little boy on June 30th. He is now old enough that he is developing a personality and changing every day I see him. He smiles at everybody when he sees them. It just makes grandpa melt and I realize how precious life is. We had Christmas at our house this year and all the family and grand children were here. Each one is a special person and a lot of fun. What a great day.
Stop by the ranch anytime to discuss cows and the cattle business since that is a major joy in our lives. Please give us any feedback about the cattle. Our goal is to make them the very best we can and we are willing to put in any effort it takes to make that happen. Thank you for taking the time to look at our catalog and hope to see you sale day.
Sincerely,
Ron, Bev, Tim, Hayley, Teagan, Kim, Michelle, Peyton, and Parker
